Partial Knee Replacement – Unicompartmental Knee Replacement
The knee can be divided into 3 compartments.
- Patello femoral – front knee between the knee cap and thigh bone
- Medial – on the inside portion of the knee
- Lateral – on the outside portion of the knee joint.
A Unicompartmental knee replacement describes the procedure where only the damaged compartment of the knee is removed and replaced with an implant – rather than a total knee replacement.
Surgery takes about 2 hours to complete
